WHAT IS ‘NO LIMITS’?
Our unique No Limits curriculum is ambitious, enriching, broad and balanced. Designed to go beyond the traditional curriculum it combines the acquisition of knowledge with the development of power skills. Our students have regular opportunities to apply their learning and demonstrate their power skills in real world contexts. Engaging in learning in this way deepens understanding, and results in high levels of achievement as well as preparing pupils/students for an ever changing world.

THE NO LIMITS CURRICULUM
Students are taught the full National Curriculum, and this is enhanced through several different learning approaches. These are designed to challenge and engage students allowing them to acquire and apply knowledge in single discipline subjects as well as through Applied Learning.
APPLIED LEARNING
Applied learning is the real-world application of knowledge and power skills that includes relevant, practical experiences. This can be through:
- Problem-Based Learning: students work on real-world problems, developing solutions through research and critical thinking.
- Experiential Learning: students participate in activities like experiments, simulations, and fieldwork.
- Project-Based Learning: students undertake projects that require applying their knowledge and skills to produce a tangible outcome.
- Work-Based Learning: students gain experience in a real-world professional setting.
- Service Learning: combines community service with academic learning, emphasising civic responsibility and reflection.
WHY IS APPLIED LEARNING IMPORTANT TO US?
- Ensures our curriculum remains relevant and evolving
- Enables students to engage with people, place and processes
- Enhances understanding and retention by deepening learning (relevant/engaging)
- Can be differentiated easily
- Makes learning more purposeful
THE CREATOR SPACE
The ‘No Limits’ Curriculum aims to give all students the opportunity to thrive, to become complex problem solvers and to be highly effective communicators. The intention behind our Creator Space is for students to work collaboratively using creative solutions to explore areas across the curriculum from science, technology, engineering and maths to art, design and English. One of the goals of the Creator Space is to instill the creator mindset in students through creative experiences while simultaneously building power skills. The Creator Space is for artists and designers of the future to help immerse, involve and inspire them.
The expectation is for each academy to follow the ‘No Limits’ curriculum outline and philosophy whilst also putting its own personal stamp on their own contextual curriculum. The shared, collective curriculum enables sufficient commonality of subjects, topics and assignments to enable Trust moderation and the raising of standards.
Power Skills at Futures
At Futures , we want every child to leave us not only with strong academic knowledge, but with the confidence, character and skills they need to succeed in life.
Alongside reading, writing and maths, we place a strong emphasis on developing what we call Power Skills – the essential life skills that help children thrive in school, in future careers and in the wider world.
What are Power Skills?
Power skills are the personal qualities and transferable skills that support lifelong success. These include things like:
- communicating clearly
- working effectively with others
- thinking critically
- solving problems
- showing resilience and independence
These skills are just as important as academic achievement and are increasingly valued by employers, colleges and universities.
Why are they important?
The world our children are growing up in is changing rapidly. While knowledge remains important, success in the future will depend on how well young people can adapt, collaborate and think for themselves.
By developing power skills, we help our pupils to:
- become confident learners
- manage challenges positively
- work well as part of a team
- express their ideas clearly
- prepare for the next stage of their education and beyond
Our Power Skills Framework
To support this, we use a clear and structured Power Skills Framework. This helps teachers explicitly teach, model and develop these important skills across the curriculum.
The framework focuses on four key areas:
Communication
Developing the ability to express ideas clearly, listen carefully and present thoughts with confidence.
Collaboration
Learning how to work effectively with others, share ideas and contribute as part of a team.
Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
Encouraging pupils to ask questions, analyse information and find creative solutions.
Character (Learning How to Learn)
Building resilience, independence, motivation and a positive attitude towards learning.
How we teach Power Skills
Power skills are not left to chance – they are taught and developed deliberately across all areas of school life.
We support pupils by:
- modelling strong behaviours and attitudes
- giving regular opportunities to practise these skills
- providing clear feedback to help pupils improve
- recognising and celebrating progress
Because every child develops at their own pace, our framework allows teachers to support each pupil’s individual journey.
Power Skills in action
You will see power skills being developed every day in lessons, as well as through wider opportunities such as:
- group work and collaborative projects
- problem-solving activities
- presentations and discussions
- real-life learning experiences
These opportunities help children apply their learning in meaningful ways and grow in confidence.
Preparing children for the future
Our aim is simple: to help every child become a capable, confident and adaptable learner who is ready for the next stage of their education—and for life beyond school.
By combining strong academic teaching with a focus on power skills, we ensure our pupils are fully prepared for the future.
