WHAT IS NO LIMITS?
Our unique No Limits curriculum is ambitious, enriching, broad and balanced. Designed to go beyond the traditional curriculum it combines the acquisition of knowledge with the development of power skills. Our students have regular opportunities to apply their learning and demonstrate their power skills in real world contexts. Engaging in learning in this way deepens understanding, and results in high levels of achievement as well as preparing pupils/students for an ever changing world.
THE NO LIMITS CURRICULUM
Students are taught the full National Curriculum, and this is enhanced through several different learning approaches. These are designed to challenge and engage students allowing them to acquire and apply knowledge in single discipline subjects as well as through Applied Learning.
APPLIED LEARNING
Applied learning is the real-world application of knowledge and power skills that includes relevant, practical experiences. This can be through:
- Problem-Based Learning: students work on real-world problems, developing solutions through research and critical thinking.
- Experiential Learning: students participate in activities like experiments, simulations, and fieldwork.
- Project-Based Learning: students undertake projects that require applying their knowledge and skills to produce a tangible outcome.
- Work-Based Learning: students gain experience in a real-world professional setting.
- Service Learning: combines community service with academic learning, emphasising civic responsibility and reflection.
WHY IS APPLIED LEARNING IMPORTANT TO US?
- Ensures our curriculum remains relevant and evolving
- Enables students to engage with people, place and processes
- Enhances understanding and retention by deepening learning (relevant/engaging)
- Can be differentiated easily
- Makes learning more purposeful
THE CREATOR SPACE
The ‘No Limits’ Curriculum aims to give all students the opportunity to thrive, to become complex problem solvers and to be highly effective communicators. The intention behind our Creator Space is for students to work collaboratively using creative solutions to explore areas across the curriculum from science, technology, engineering and maths to art, design and English. One of the goals of the Creator Space is to instill the creator mindset in students through creative experiences while simultaneously building power skills. The Creator Space is for artists and designers of the future to help immerse, involve and inspire them.
The expectation is for each academy to follow the ‘No Limits’ curriculum outline and philosophy whilst also putting its own personal stamp on their own contextual curriculum. The shared, collective curriculum enables sufficient commonality of subjects, topics and assignments to enable Trust moderation and the raising of standards.
Power Skills at Our School
Power Skills at Our School
At our school, we believe that every child should leave with more than strong academic results. We want our pupils to develop the skills, qualities and attitudes that will help them succeed in school, in future careers and in life.
To support this, we actively teach and develop five key Power Skills across all areas of learning:
1. Communication
2. Collaboration
3. Character (Learning to Deep Learn)
4. Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
5. Creativity
These skills are embedded throughout our curriculum and wider school experiences, helping children become confident, adaptable and independent learners.
What are Power Skills?
Power skills are the essential human skills that help children thrive in an ever-changing world. They support pupils in becoming effective learners, strong team members and thoughtful individuals.
Alongside academic knowledge, power skills help children learn how to:
- express their ideas clearly
- work positively with others
- think deeply and solve problems
- show resilience and independence
- use imagination and innovation
These skills are increasingly valued by employers, colleges and universities and are vital for preparing children for the future.
Our Five Power Skills
1. Communication
Communication is about expressing ideas clearly and listening carefully to others. We help pupils develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading and presenting their ideas in a range of situations.
Children learn to:
- share ideas clearly and respectfully
- listen actively to others
- present information confidently
- adapt communication for different audiences
2. Collaboration
Collaboration helps children learn how to work successfully with others. Pupils develop teamwork skills by sharing ideas, supporting one another and contributing positively to group tasks.
Children learn to:
- work cooperatively with others
- value different viewpoints
- take responsibility within a team
- resolve disagreements respectfully
3. Character (Learning to Deep Learn)
Character focuses on developing the attitudes and behaviours needed for successful learning. We encourage pupils to become resilient, reflective and motivated learners who are willing to challenge themselves.
Children learn to:
- persevere when learning is difficult
- reflect on their progress
- take ownership of their learning
- develop independence and resilience
- approach challenges with confidence
4. Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
Critical thinking encourages pupils to question, analyse and make informed decisions. Through problem-solving opportunities, children learn to think deeply and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.
Children learn to:
- ask thoughtful questions
- analyse information carefully
- solve problems creatively
- explain and justify their thinking
- apply learning to real-life situations
5. Creativity
Creativity encourages imagination, curiosity and innovation. We want pupils to explore ideas, take risks and think beyond the obvious.
Children learn to:
- generate original ideas
- approach tasks with imagination
- experiment and explore possibilities
- express themselves creatively
- adapt and improve their work
How We Develop Power Skills
Power skills are taught and developed deliberately across the curriculum and through wider school experiences.
Teachers support pupils by:
- modelling positive behaviours and attitudes
- creating opportunities for discussion and teamwork
- encouraging reflection and independence
- providing meaningful feedback
- celebrating progress and achievement
Because every child develops differently, our approach allows pupils to grow at their own pace while continuing to build confidence and capability over time.
Power Skills in Action
You will see power skills being developed every day through:
- classroom discussions
- collaborative learning
- problem-solving activities
- creative projects
- presentations and performances
- real-life and interdisciplinary learning opportunities
These experiences help children apply their learning in meaningful contexts and prepare them for future success.
Preparing Children for the Future
Our aim is to develop pupils who are not only academically successful, but also confident communicators, thoughtful collaborators, resilient learners, creative thinkers and effective problem solvers.
By combining excellent teaching with a strong focus on power skills, we prepare children for the opportunities and challenges of the future.
