This term year 7 have been learning about the rock cycle and the different landscapes in the UK that have developed as a result of the different geology. To develop students’ knowledge and understanding further, EKFB kindly delivered a geology workshop to our year 7 students.

The students learnt about how geology plays a role in the construction of HS2. Giles Hemming explained how they check the rock types found along the course of the HS2 build and inform the construction teams how to best prepare the land for construction based on those rock types.

The team from EKFB also delivered a series of workshops to help develop students’ understanding of the fossils that have been found along the HS2 route. They also delivered a workshop on map skills looking at the HS2 route and the different geology found along it. The team also brought in rock samples from along the route for students to study and also see how the rocks respond to things such as chemical weathering.

Many thanks to EKFB for inspiring the next generation of geologists!
