OVERVIEW OF COURSE

The A Level Art and Design Photography course offers students a full programme of advanced study to enable students to progress their skills in creativity and practical application of photography. After a short introductory course in Year 12, students will be able to develop their own body of work in order to cater for own interests and specialisms. All work is continually assessed internally to allow for regular feedback and improvement before final submission at the end of the course.

YEAR 13

Component One: Personal Investigation – 60%

Students will be guided to select a theme of their own choice. They will respond to this theme by creating a body of work including artist research and development, written and practical preparation work and a final practical outcome. They will also produce a written study of between 1000 and 3000 words in response to their chosen theme and their own practical studies.

Component Two: Externally Set Assignment – 40%

Students will be given a theme and a suggestion of different starting points which will be released by Edexcel on 1st February. This will then allow them time to generate and explore ideas in response to their own research and the work of other artists. For assessment they will produce a portfolio of work demonstrating their written and developmental practical work before producing their final outcome over a 15-hour period of time.
